Shropshire Way Association (SWA)

The Association was formed 2016. Its aims are to maintain, preserve and promote the Shropshire Way Main Route as a long distance path. SWA has been working with Shropshire Council to define a Main Route as distinct from the many circular routes that had been developed during recent years.

Priority has been given to the southern section as this was the path conceived by the walkers who established the original Shropshire Way in 1980.

The Association is run by a dedicated team of volunteers with practical help from Shropshire Council Outdoor Partnership Team and local P3 groups.

Financial support has been received from Ramblers Holidays Charitable Trust and anonymous donors.

Development of the website is ongoing. The route definition is a priority, starting with the Southern section and moving on to the Northern one. There will be a page for each stage with downloads of maps, .gpx files and points of interest.

Pages for accommodaton and public transport links will follow.

Here is a shortened version of the presentation given at the Wellington Walking Festival. The event was used to launch the southern section of the Shropshire Way Main Route and the presentation includes some history of the path and its re-establishment.
